My kids need to learn Portuguese, but it is hard to find resources both online or offline.
Portuguese isn't a popular language when it comes to finding books or teaching resources, and when you do discover something it's usually Brazilian Portuguese and sometimes European Portuguese speakers don't want their kids learning this.
But, sometimes anything is better than nothing so here are some ideas for learning Portuguese by 'exposure' to it...
Kids TV Videos in Portuguese
One resource we use is to learn Portuguese using kids videos - people will upload the foreign language versions of popular kids TV programmes to YouTube and we add them to our 'tried and trusted' video player.
Portuguese Websites for Kids
Brazilian Portuguese is often used on some of the bigger kids' websites where multi-lingual versions of the site are available. One such site is EverythingGirl.com which features Barbie and Polly Pocket in Portuguese among others and my kids are encouraged to use these sites in both English and Portuguese.
Another option is to go straight to the Portuguese or Brazilian TV channels and see what's on offer in their kids' section.
Portuguese Books Online
A wonderful online resource for Portuguese or bilingual books is the international digital Children's Library - they have an excellent selection of modern, colourful books in lots of languages - it was a real treasure to discover this site!
Printables and Educational Resources
Portuguese printables are available from Enchanted Learning.com, including an English-Portuguese Picture Dictionary and various other educational printables. Again this site caters for other languages too.
