In the Night Garden Characters

Exactly who/what are the In the Night Garden characters? You could ask your kid, and they WILL know...but if you're out to impress here's a quick parent's guide...

In the Night Garden Characters (Find Merchandise)

...A Brief Parent's Guide

Iggle Piggle

The main man! He is an energetic teddy with a security blanket and is the one that sails away in his little boat at the end.

Upsy Daisy

The leading lady. Described as a happy and confident doll who loves dancing and singing around the garden...personally she gets on my nerves with that darn song! Apparently Upsy Daisy is Iggle Piggle's best friend.

Makka Pakka

My favourite! Makka Pakka is the little beige one that walks around with a bikecontraption, which carries his soap and sponge for washing stones , which he stacks into little zen-like piles! Helives in a little cave with an uncomfortable looking stone bed and bright blankets.
"Makka Pakka
Akka wakka
Mikka makka moo!"

Pinky Ponk

This is the 'trumping plane' as my daughter calls it. It's an airship that makes the most unbecoming sounds you can imagine. It has lots of things moving and flashing on it, and the characters travel in it.

Apparently there is method in all it's madness...

"The red ‘ponk’ light on the nose slowlyflashes green to signal takingoff and red when landing. Interior lights also flash when taking offand landing"

Tombliboos

The Tombliboos are the three 'spotty' guys whose trousers have a tendancy to fall down.

Apparently they are 'pepper-pots', and they have names...

  • Unn is the red and green one
  • Ooo is the brown and pink one
  • Eee is the pink and yellow

Pontipines

The Pontipines are a huge family of 10 peg dolls. They live in a semi-detached house at the base of a tree. Strangely, Mrs Pontipine wears binoculars.

They have 4 boys and 4 girls who are often absent but, the official site tells us, Mr and Mrs Pontipine don't worry about not knowing where their kids are because they always return home safely...hmmm

Wottingers

The Wottingers are 'the blue ones' who live in the house next door to the Pontipines.

Ninky Nonk

This is a train, which can go up and down trees and even upside down along the branches! Apparently, Iggle Piggle, Upsy Daisy, the Tombliboos and the little Pontipines have their own private carriages...but are often found travelling in each others, fastened into their seatbelts of course.

Hahoos

These are just odd. The Haahoos are "five enormous pillowy characters" that just roam around and deflate at the end.

So there you have it, the parent's guide to the In the Night Garden characters!

How do they come up with these ideas???
